Three months is long enough to stop being a guest. Long enough to learn which tree fruits first, and on which evenings the gulf turns gold.

I. — The arrival

Number 433, under the trees.

At the end of Küme Evler Sokak, an iron gate opens under a canopy of old trees and bougainvillea. Gravel underfoot, lavender along the path, and the stone house waiting in the shade.

II. — The story

Two hands, a decade apart.

“His was the vision. Hers is the light.”

2012

The first owner

A Dane who had left the north for the light of the Aegean bought this slope and had a house raised on it the way the hills had always built: in the grey stone of the region, laid course by course, under a roof of terracotta tile. He asked nothing of the land that it could not give. The house he left behind looks as if it had always been here.

2021

The keeper

Hazel Tura had loved this coast since she was a child: the pines, the gulf, the smell of the grove after rain. When the house came to her, she did not want to change its character, only to let it breathe. With Berfin Çelik, one of the region’s most respected architects, she opened the stone to the view: wide glass, lime plaster, pale oak, a terrace over the valley. Every stone wall from 2012 still stands.

III. — The houses

Built in local stone, made for living in.

The estate is let as one: both houses, the garden, the pool and the grove, to a single family or group. No other guests, no shared gate.

The Main House

Two floors of stone and glass facing the hills. Five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, so a family or a small group can share the house and still keep their own rooms. Upstairs, a long terrace looks out over the valley; downstairs, the living rooms open straight onto the garden and the pool.

The Loft

A single-storey stone house with high ceilings, built like a studio. One bedroom, a sitting room and a bathroom, with tall glass doors onto a terrace edged with rosemary. Somewhere to write or to work, a few steps from the main house, or to give grandparents, a guest or a nanny their own front door.

IV. — Inside

Lime plaster, pale oak, white cotton.

Hand-trowelled walls that change colour with the hour. Oak treads and beams lit from within, rattan and stone pendants, deep basins on plastered counters. Nothing to distract from the windows, and the windows are full of hills.

VI. — The grove

Stay for the autumn, pick your own oil.

More than half the land is olive grove: 2,250 m² of old trees running down the slope towards the gulf. The oil pressed from them is among the most prized in the region.

Guests staying through the harvest are welcome to join it: a morning under the trees, then the first taste of the new oil.

VII. — The orchard

Lemon, orange, linden, banana. All of them bear fruit.

Whichever three months you choose, something in the garden is ready to pick.
